About the spot

Prea is a famous kite beach next to Géricoacoara. Unlike the closed lagoon, there is an ocean here: there is a chop, surf and a long coastline. It’s a good place to get used to more lively water and work on a confident run. In the evening you can go to Géry, but for daily kitesurfing, living by the beach is usually more practical.

What to pay attention to

Lagoon experience does not automatically prepare you for the ocean. Arrange a supported downwinder with a clear finishing point.

Best time to travel: September-December

For the Brazilian spot route, Dragon Kite recommends September–December, a time of sustained winds on the northeast coast. This is a good period to plan a trip around daily kitesurfing, from the ocean beaches of Ceara to the lagoons and estuaries of Piaui. Wind strength and water condition vary by day and spot, so the size of the kite, tides and forecast still check before leaving.

Description of the wind season at local schools: 7Beaufort, Illa do Guagiro and Preá Kite Club.

How to plan the road

Check the transfer from Fortaleza or Géricoacoara Airport; the last section depends on the location of the accommodation.

Before paying, check with the receiving team the place of study and the nearest comfortable accommodation. “Hotel by the sea” and “hotel by the kite zone” do not always mean the same thing.

Where is it?

The marker shows the area, not the exact launch point. Find the station address and permitted area at the school.

Questions before travel

How to choose the time of the trip?

September-December is a benchmark for planning. Before paying, confirm the season at the local school and check the forecast for travel dates.

What to ask the school before booking?

Where the lessons are held, what the size of the group is, whether the equipment is included, what language is taught and how the rescue on the water is organized.
