About the spot

Illa do Guagiro is a lagoon kite district near Itarema. A sand strip separates the lagoon from the ocean, and the shore is filled with small stations and pousadas. Flat water helps to focus on the rack and transitions, but the water level changes the size of the water area during the day. The best plan is to first find out the tide schedule at the station, and then decide when to get out.

What to pay attention to

Check the tide: some areas become too shallow at low water. The exact location of the author's own visit still needs to be confirmed.

Best time to travel: September-December

For the Brazilian spot route, Dragon Kite recommends September–December, a time of sustained winds on the northeast coast. This is a good period to plan a trip around daily kitesurfing, from the ocean beaches of Ceara to the lagoons and estuaries of Piaui. Wind strength and water condition vary by day and spot, so the size of the kite, tides and forecast still check before leaving.

Description of the wind season at local schools: 7Beaufort, Illa do Guagiro and Preá Kite Club.

How to plan the road

The main point of arrival is Fortaleza, then a car transfer to Itarema.

Before paying, check with the receiving team the place of study and the nearest comfortable accommodation. “Hotel by the sea” and “hotel by the kite zone” do not always mean the same thing.

Where is it?

The marker shows the area, not the exact launch point. Find the station address and permitted area at the school.

Questions before travel

How to choose the time of the trip?

September-December is a benchmark for planning. Before paying, confirm the season at the local school and check the forecast for travel dates.

What to ask the school before booking?

Where the lessons are held, what the size of the group is, whether the equipment is included, what language is taught and how the rescue on the water is organized.
